as dry as a martini

The weather has been a little off in LA of late. Last week was kinda hot for this time of year, even for LA. And over the holiday weekend, the weather changed. Suddenly, a cooler breeze blew in, and I even felt a little chilled on Saturday night (although that may have been something to do with my mood at the time).

Whatever the temperature, the air feels dry. So much so that my skin looks like I ran some sandpaper over it and blew it with a hot air gun, just to be sure. (This despite current humidity levels in the 80 percentile.) My local sources explained about the Santa Ana winds and how they would have caused last week's unseasonal heat. But I haven't yet found an explanation for the current dry conditions. Of course, the scaly skin could well be a result of obsessive hand washing or too much SDS/SLS in our shampoo or shower gel; but why the sudden worsening?

i think winters in the desert in general are really dry. i also recall that thanksgivings used to be unseasonally warm--about decade ago, the temperature reached 93-103 degrees, which wasn't the hottest thanksgiving on record, but pretty damn hot anyway.

it's cold again now, no thanks to the un-SoCal rain we've been having.
